A/Prof Natasha Smallwood
Natasha is a respiratory physician at the Alfred Hospital, Head of the Chronic Respiratory Disease Research Lab at the Central Clinical School (Monash university) and principal research fellow at Monash University. Natasha has clinical and research interests in caring for people with advanced respiratory illnesses particularly managing challenging symptoms like severe breathlessness. She established and led the Advanced Lung Disease Service at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and now leads the Breathlessness & Advanced Respiratory Disease Clinic at the Alfred Hospital (Melbourne).

Dr Cathy Corbett
Cathy is a general physician and palliative care physician at Alfred Health. Her main clinical interest is in holistic care for older people with chronic non-malignant disease with careful consideration of symptoms and shared decision making with patients and families. Cathy also has roles in supervision and education and is well placed to enhance collaboration between teams to achieve the best outcomes for patients.

Dr Umbreen Qazi
Umbreen is a palliative care physician working at Alfred Health and Western Health. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Her interests include non-malignant palliative care, particularly in advanced lung diseases and chronic breathlessness management.
In addition to her clinical role, Dr Qazi has a keen interest in clinical supervision, education, and research.

Ms Catherine Buchan
Catherine is a Respiratory and Sleep Nurse Consultant with extensive clinical experience having worked at Alfred Health for greater than 20 years. She has a Post Grad Diploma in Advanced Nursing Critical Care and Master of Nursing Science. Catherine is a research assistant and PhD candidate in A/Prof Smallwood’s research team. She has a passion for providing holistic biopsychosocial, person-centred management where evidence is translated into practice with the aim for better healthcare outcomes.

A/Prof Rebecca Disler
Rebecca is a respiratory researcher at Monash University and former Respiratory Specialist Nurse with 8 years clinical experience. She is supported by an Australian Research Council Discovery Fellowship to address end-stage chronic disease across rural Australia, including: improving health service delivery; supportive, palliative and end-stage care; and addressing influences on health behaviours. She is Co-Convenor of the Symptom Support and Palliative Care special interest group and member of the Research Committee for the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Dr Amy Pascoe
Amy is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow with the Chronic Respiratory Disease Research Group at Monash University and Alfred Health in Melbourne, Victoria. In her current role she manages clinical trials targeting symptom relief and quality of life in chronic respiratory disease. Her other research interests include health service delivery and healthcare inequity in chronic respiratory disease.

Ms Stefanie Zappino
Stefanie is a registered Music Therapist who graduated her masters of music therapy from the University of Melbourne in 2016. Stefanie has worked within the healthcare sector for the past 7 years across acute psychiatry, oncology, palliative care and paediatrics. Stefanie is currently in a clinical research role in A/Prof Smallwood’s research team, responsible for developing and leading online singing for breathing sessions as part of the SINFONIA RCT. Stefanie has a passion for singing for breathing programs for people experiencing breathlessness due to chronic lung disease and hopes to further this passion by enrolling in her PhD in 2024.

Ms Lena Ly
Lena Ly is a PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne (MDHS- St Vincent’s Hospital). Her PhD explores the benefits of non-pharmacological approaches for people with severe non-malignant lung diseases, such as singing for lung health programs. She is also a research assistant in A/Prof Natasha Smallwood’s research team. Lena's research interests include advanced chronic respiratory diseases and palliative care.

Dr Latasha Abeynaike
Latasha is a postdoctoral research assistant for Primary Breathe Australia, working in A/Prof Natasha Smallwood’s research team at Monash University, based at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne. She has a background in respiratory research and has previous experience as a respiratory scientist.

Dr Nicola Atkin
Nicola is a Palliative Care Physician at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. She works with patients with cancer and advanced lung diseases, with a focus on symptom management. Nicola is currently leading research to improve the treatment of anxiety in advanced disease.

Su is a Respiratory and Sleep physician who currently leads the Advanced, non-malignant lung disease clinic at Royal Melbourne Hospital. Her interest involves smoking cessation, palliative care and chronic disease management.

Michelle is a respiratory nurse consultant working in the advanced lung disease clinic at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. She has a broad range of nursing experience and post graduate qualifications in Respiratory science.
